Total Builders Merchants sales for October were 0.2% higher than October 2019, with one trading day less this year. Two categories sold more, led by landscaping (+ 16.5%). Timber & Joinery Products (+ 5.0%) achieved the highest monthly sales since the first collection of BMBI data in July 2014.

The largest category of heavy building materials was 0.6% below the previous year’s figure. There were larger declines in indoor categories, with sanitary heating and electrics (-10.5%) being the weakest. Decoration (-8.1%) and kitchens and bathrooms (-6.5%) also declined. Average sales per day, which takes into account the differences between trading days, increased 4.7% from October 2019.
