Elkins approves landscaping bids | News, Sports, Jobs

ELKINS — The City of Elkins has accepted two bids involving downtown beautification, one for hanging baskets and the other for ground maintenance of the newly renovated City Hall parking lot.

First, Elkins City Council addressed a bid from Tammy’s Floral of the Delmonte Market to provide the hanging baskets and decorative flowers around town, during the most recent council meeting.

Tammy’s Floral entered a bid of $31,914.14 to do the work. This was the only bid the city received.

“We will fill 36 24-inch hanging baskets located on both sides of Third Street and Davis Avenue,” the bid from Tammy’s Floral stated. “We will fill 14 44-inch hayracks located on the Davis Avenue bridge, Darden House and at the back of the City Hall building.

“Flower selection will be a beautiful mix of colors and various types of summer flowers and will vine over hanging baskets and out of each hayrack. The mum plants will cover the interior of each of the 36 hanging baskets and fill the length of each of the 14 hayracks.

“The pine garland will be artificial (not fresh) and will be placed around the rim of each hanging basket and a warm white non-LED light will be installed in each hanging basket on the poles that have a power outlet,” the bid stated.

All nine council members present voted to approve the contract. First Ward Councilwoman Judy Guye did not attend the meeting.

Next, Elkins City Council addressed a bid from Terra Flora Landscaping of Elkins for ground maintenance of the City Hall parking lot.

The bid totaled $6,824.85. The maintenance will include weeding, trimming, pruning and watering as needed, as well as cleaning and disposal of materials.

All nine council members present voted to approve the contract.

The renovation of the City Hall parking lot completed with a ribbon cutting in November 2021.

The project broke ground during the first week of June 2021 and met its goal of being completed ahead of schedule. Elkins City Council accepted a bid of $849,594 for the project from Polino Contracting in May 2021.
