By Sharon Aron Baron

When the holidays are long gone and the Christmas tree isn’t, it’s time to jump in and donate to Broward County’s annual Chip-a-Tree initiative.

Last year Broward County Parks recycled nearly 4,000 trees that otherwise would likely have been sent to landfill.

For the free program, Broward County residents must remove all decorations from their Christmas trees. Decorated trees will not be accepted and the trees will then be taken to a participating park.

The trees are then felled and used for landscaping throughout the county park system.

The recently appointed Vice Mayor of Broward County Michael Udine encourages everyone to take advantage of this service.

“You can dispose of your tree in a safe and environmentally friendly way knowing that even this small act will help our parking system and the environment,” said Udine, adding, “In a year where we have all tried to give to others and to help this is a great way to continue. “

This season’s program runs every day Monday, January 18, 2021This gives the residents enough time before they drag their tree into a park.

The regular admission price for the weekend and the holiday gate does not apply to recyclers. So there is no excuse for not doing the right thing. There is a limit of two trees per vehicle, artificial trees are not accepted, and utility vehicles or garbage trucks are not allowed.
