With winter’s arrival, homeowners may be thinking about storing their lawn tools and relaxing during the cold months ahead. But there are still a few things homeowners can do during the winter to help ensure a beautiful green lawn and garden once spring arrives.

1. Prep your lawn.
– Reduce the chance of snow mold by mowing your lawn 1 to 2 inches shorter than usual.
– Make sure your grass has access to as much sunlight, nutrients and water as possible by mulching leaves in your lawn down to dime-sized pieces — which can add cold-weather protection and nutrition — and picking up heavy branches, toys and outdoor furniture .
– Remove all weeds to prevent them from stealing valuable nutrients and water.
– Insulate soil, protect tender plants and conserve water by cleaning up dead plants and other debris from garden beds and mulching your garden area in the fall or early winter.
2. Prune your trees.
– Remove broken or decaying branches to increase light and air in the crown of the tree. This not only helps ensure stronger trees in the spring, but also protects against storm damage and falling limbs.
– Plan to prune when the weather is dry and mild and after trees have shed most of their leaves.
3. Get plants ready for spring indoors.
– Label containers when starting seeds indoors and be ready to move them into lighted areas once seedlings appear.
– Allow soil to dry between watering, and watch for yellow leaves, which may indicate your plants need less water.
– Position grown plants carefully near windows. Plants may wither if they receive too much sunlight, which has a lower trajectory during the winter.

You should also avoid walking on frozen areas of your lawn to reduce the chance of winter kill and be mindful when using ice melting salts to avoid damage to your lawn.

Look no further! These 7 simple steps will set you up for success and help you effectively communicate the value of artificial turf to potential customers.

This book is a game changer for anyone in the artificial turf industry. I have been in this industry for over 16 years and now im sharing some of my secrets on how to sell artificial turf.”

CELINA, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, January 8, 2023 /EINPresswire.com/ — Attention: Business Owners and Sales Professionals

When it comes to landscaping, nothing beats the look and feel of natural grass – but what about when Mother Nature just can’t deliver, and customers are tired of paying high water bills? That’s where synthetic grass comes in – and today we’re excited to announce that Luxe Blades owner Nick Ogilvie has just released another book on the topic! Called How to Sell Artificial Turf, the book covers everything needed to sell an artificial turf job to prospective clients.
Ogilvie has been working in the synthetic grass industry for over 16 years now, so he knows his stuff – and he’s excited to share his expertise with entrepreneurs and contractors everywhere who are looking for an easy way to add to their bottom line or start another business in the artificial turf industry. “How to Sell Artificial Turf” is now available on Amazon or paper back and www.luxeblades.com

Nick Ogilvie has always been driven by his passion for entrepreneurship. From a young age, he learned from his successful grandfathers about the rewards and challenges of owning a business. As a student at West Texas A&M, Nick was vice president of his fraternity and worked at the Ambassador Hotel, where he developed a strong understanding of customer experience.

But it wasn’t until Nick was laid off from his job as a conductor with BNSF Railway that he found his true calling in the artificial turf industry. With droughts and water shortages becoming more common in his home region of Eastern New Mexico and West Texas, Nick saw the potential for artificial turf to become a viable solution for homeowners seeking a lush green lawn without the high-water usage. In fact, a 1,000 to 1,500 square foot lawn consumes around 12,000 gallons of water per year, making the switch to artificial turf a smart investment with a 4-year return on investment.
With his savings, Nick flew out to California to learn how to lay artificial turf, and 16 years later he has installed it all over the country, from California to Vermont and down to the Florida Keys. Some of his notable projects include the Crystal River Harley Davidson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Crown Euro Cars Mercedes Benz, Hard Rock Hotels, and the Devon Amphitheater in Decatur, Illinois.

But golf has always been a personal passion for Nick. He has been playing since he was seven years old and has always been drawn to the sport. This passion led him to design and install the first artificial turf par 3 on the south rim of the Palo Duro Canyon for The River Falls Development outside of Amarillo, Texas. He also built a 9-hole par 3 course for the City of Clovis, NM and is currently working on a course in Lucas, Texas.

Through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to delivering the best customer experience, Nick Ogilvie has built a successful career in the artificial turf industry. He is a true inspiration to anyone seeking to turn their passions into a successful business.

How to clean artificial grass

It’s recommended that you clean your artificial grass once a week in Autumn and find time to clean it once a month for the rest of the year.

Here, we will give you four easy steps on how you can clean and make sure your artificial grass looks as fresh as ever.

Brush the grass

Use a broom or a plastic rake to brush your grass and maintain its effect.

Do not use a metal rake or else it might damage your turf.

If someone left some heavy marks on the grass, then brush against the grain and it’ll get a spruced-up look eventually.

To brush your lawn, start in one corner and then work your way across to the side, tackling all the strips.

In other words, pretend that you’re mowing your lawn.

Remove any leaves

Use a leaf blower to get rid of any leaves and debris.

It would be easier to blow it all off into one corner so that then you can collect it at one go using a dustpan and brush.

This helps to prevent any weeds from growing on your turf, and if you have time to do this more than once a month, it is highly recommended.

Remove weeds

Use a water-based moss and weed remover that has a pH balance of eight.

Apply it to your areas where weeds and moss that grew and once they die off remove them along with the leaves and debris collected earlier.

Fill in with sand

Scatter some sand across your turf and brush it in using a broom.

Make sure to distribute evenly over your lowan and do not leave any excess.

Leave it for two hours before you walk over the artificial grass again.

Can I clean artificial grass with a vacuum cleaner?

You shouldn’t use a vacuum cleaner over your artificial grass.

A vacuum cleaner can suck in the sand from the grass area and damage your turf.

Follow these three steps to keep it cool in the heat

Scorching hot temperatures are often bad news for garden lawns, but it’s not just organic turf that can be hard to keep on top of in the hot weather. With highs of near 40C predicted to blast much of the UK tomorrow, garden-owners with artificial turf should follow a few key steps to keep their lawn from becoming a danger to pets and young children. Here’s what you need to know about artificial grass in a heatwave, and exactly how to keep it cool.

Does artificial grass get hot in the sun?

All types of grass can struggle in extreme heat, especially those which are made of artificial materials.

The artificial grass company Easigrass said: “As with decking or patios exposed to direct sunlight, fake turf temperature can rise quickly and will not have the natural cooling effect we may be used to from a real grass lawn.”

Cheaper brands of artificial grass are more at risk of becoming “too hot” in the heat of summer when made of polyester or acrylic, though even high quality nylon or polypropylene turf can get very hot.

It is important to note that while fake lawns can become hot quickly, they are “very unlikely” to melt or burn.

Artificial grass experts Almost Grass said: “Regardless, all of these materials have a very high melting point, ranging from 250 degrees Fahrenheit for polyester to 428 degrees Fahrenheit for nylon.

“The only way your artificial grass can get damaged under the sun is under glass magnification.”

While fake grass won’t reach the same burning temperatures as concrete or asphalt surfaces, there are still a few things gardeners should do to keep fake lawns from getting ‘too hot’ to enjoy in a heatwave.

Create shade

A natural, easy, and temporary solution to a hot lawn is to block the sunlight with shadows.

For instant relief, use lawn furniture to create shade or consider using a gazebo to cover a larger space.

A well-landscaped garden can work as a long term remedy if your fake grass is constantly exposed to the sun.

Allow trees and hedging to grow in borders and add more around your garden to increase the amount of shade.

Use the right infill

Infill is an important part of regulating the temperature within the blades of artificial turf.

Almost Grass said: “Choosing the infill has a significant impact on your grass’s performance in heat, and its ability to cool off.

“The right infill will allow air to flow throughout the grass, cooling it down significantly, as well as making the grass feel softer as you walk through it.”

Modern, light-coloured infill like silica sand and durafill sand are both superior choices for residential lawns, as they are designed with lighter colors so they don’t trap the heat from sun rays within your lawn.
