SECUNDERABAD: Cantonment residents blamed the technical wing of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) for the recent floods on Sunday. They say that the poor quality material and unscientific methods of building the retaining walls of the open nalas are the reasons for the grave difficulties they suffered when sewage breached the nalas and poured into their colonies and homes.
More than 1,500 families in Progressive Colony, Vamshi Krishna Colony, Royal Enclave, SBI Colony, Green View Enclave, and Aravelly Enclave had to spend about a week without electricity because their streets and houses were full. You still have to recover from the situation. “The flooding of our colony was due to the negligence of SCB and officials. The infrastructure here was built about four decades ago. The retaining walls of Hasmathpet nala collapsed due to the heavy rain on October 13th and 14th, ”said a resident of the Royal Enclave.
“The wastewater got into the colonies. As we have no alternative roads, we could not leave our apartments. There was no electricity because the electrical panels were soaked in water, ”said G Krishna, a resident of the Progressive Colony.
About 20 houses in the Aravelly Enclave near the Royal Enclave are still flooded.
Ramesh Reddy, Vice President of the Royal Enclave Housing Colonies, said, “Sewage from Hasmathpet Nala entered the Royal Enclave first and flooded 10 other colonies.”
Reddy said SCB should increase the height of the retaining walls to prevent future flooding. “Although the SCB officials have responded and removed the rubble, there is still a lot to be done,” added Reddy.
