(WAOW) – Most of the garden tools may be tucked away for this year, but individuals may want to bring them back out.
The Department of Natural Recourses says now is the perfect time to create indigenous landscapes, i.e. planting trees or seeds that are native to Wisconsin, such as hazelnuts and oaks.
This provides better food and shelter for wildlife in the year ahead.
“When we think of insect pollinators, these insects often have specific relationships with certain plants and don’t recognize many plants introduced from other regions,” said Amy Staffen, DNR Conservation Biologist.
According to Staffen, planting now and on snow helps plant growth in spring.
