Maine Standoff Over Landscaping Ends After Nearly 24 Hours

A standoff with a man in Cornish, Maine that started Thursday morning in a dispute over a weekend landscaping came to an end nearly 24 hours after it began.

York County Sheriff William King said Edward Kalinoski, 66, broke the window of his neighbor’s house on Spur Road around 6:45 am using a tractor and flattened his neighbor’s tires with a knife. Kalinoski went back to his home and refused to cooperate with sheriff deputies when they attempted to speak with him.

The joint York County and Cumberland County Special Response Team surrounded the house.

The situation continued all day into the night and a search warrant was obtained to search the home. King described attempts by crisis negotiators and a behavioral health worker to speak with Kalinoski as “fruitless” in a release just before midnight Thursday night.

The standoff ended around dawn Friday morning, according to a statement from King.

Kalinoski faces charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening, criminal mischief, and refusal to submit to arrest or detention.
