Landscaping troubles left behind after Iowa’s 2020 derecho

ANKENY, Iowa – When the derecho blew through Iowa last summer, it wiped out tons of trees. Now it can do the same to your summer landscape dreams, especially if you are hoping to add some taller trees to your garden.

According to TNT Landscaping and Nursery in Ankeny, business was booming after the derecho and people wanted to replace trees that had fallen in the storm. But now the supply of old trees has dwindled.

TNT’s Erica Olson is trying to help customers replace what the derecho took but said, “It had a pretty big impact because many of our growers opened their stocks last spring, so we have it not really done. ” so much available to us. “

Now old trees may be shorter, but Olson says they have a lot of smaller trees available and they are ordering plants right now. They expect a good selection for customers by mid-April.
