Winterizing your Garden and Landscape, 6-7:30 p.m., Esko Town Hall, 25 E. Harney Road, Esko. During the free event, Extension Educator Mercedes Moffett will provide tips on how attendees can winterize their gardens and landscapes to minimize disease and pests for the upcoming garden season. Alyssa Bloss, a conservation specialist with the Carlton Soil and Water Conservation District, will talk about what to leave in the yard as winter sets in to preserve pollinators for next season. Financial Class – 5 Keys to Retiring Fearlessly, 6:30 pm, Barnum High School Community Education Office, 3675 Carlton County Road 140, Barnum. The free workshop will cover five key retirement strategies to consider for a successful retirement in today’s world. The session will address the pitfalls that can derail a retirement plan if left unchecked. Todd Rengo of Greenstone Financial Group will lead the session. The deadline to register is Sept. 14. Story Book Walk, Barnum High School Nature Center. Barnum Community Education will host a story book walk from Sept. 23-30 featuring the book “First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg. The free activity is available for people of all ages. Attendees are invited to grab their mud boots, wagons and their whole family to enjoy the story books.

Beginner Farmer Financial Boot Camp, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Carlton County Transportation Building. New and beginning farmers are invited to learn how to understand their farm’s financial statements and utilize them to see the financial success of their farms. The guest speaker will be Rob Holcomb, Extension educator specializing in agricultural business management. He will discuss the important financial statements and how farmers can best use these documents to realize success. There is no cost to attend the event. Carlton County Trailblazers 55 and Older Group, 11 am, Cloquet VFW, 210 Arch St. The Carlton County Trailblazers 55 and Older Group (formerly the Retired Men’s Group) welcome men and women age 55 and older to their next luncheon meeting. The social hour starts at 11 am, followed by a meal at noon. Roast pork loin with all the fixings is on the menu at a cost of $15 per person. The guest speaker will be Shelly Peterson of Promoting Me LLC, who will talk about helping people become brands and make a name for themselves. Members of the public are welcome.

Tinker Kids: After School Program “Rock Painting,” 4-5 pm, Cloquet Public Library. The free event, geared toward kids in grades K-6, will allow attendees the chance to paint rocks. Children can drop at any time and stay as long as they like. Light snacks will be provided.

15th Annual Cloquet River Run, 9 am, Churchill Elementary, 515 Granite St., Cloquet. The 15th annual 1 mile and 5K run/walk will be held with all proceeds benefiting health-related equipment and programs, as well as technology purchases at Churchill Elementary. Following the business meeting, Mark Munger will give a presentation titled, “The Importance of Ethnic Groups to Artists, Writers, and Musicians.” Finlandia Foundation Northland is the Duluth area chapter of Finlandia Foundation National.

Self Care with Chair, Chair Yoga for All, 11-11:45 am, Cloquet Public Library. Carolyn Ripp will host the weekly Chair Yoga for All classes. Chair Yoga can increase flexibility, improve core strength and balance, reduce stress, alleviate pain and more. The practice can be helpful for people of all ages, including those who work at a desk or tend to sit for long periods of time. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothing. No previous experience is needed.

Barnum Community Education staff and Nathan Rimolde from RTS will be on hand to help people get their tech questions answered. They’ll be able to help with smartphones, Nooks, Kindles, iPads, laptops, social media, bluetooth and more. Coffee and tea will be available.

A Nesting Place, second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 1-2 pm Community Memorial Hospital/Raiter Family Clinic host the free group for new moms regardless of where their baby was delivered.
